Gotta soft spot for Hudelot-Baillet…I don’t mind admitting that. It’s just got everything that I like about Burgundy: not too big, congenial winemaker, choice selection of premier crus with a grand cru if you fancy, straightforward winemaking, nothing fancy, nothing self-aggrandising. Just delicious, nuanced wines that need but a sip to compel a purchase.
Dominique Leguen, son-in-law of former proprietor Joel Hudelot-Baillet, (who also serves as the vineyard manager for Frederic Mugnier.) Dominique’s wines are still under the radar (…ish), but appear to be gaining wider audience with every passing vintage. “
It was another consistent set of wines from Dominique that foraged more fruité than some of his Chambolle peers. There is a delicious sappiness to these 2014s in barrel that should be translated into bottle.
ALLEN MEADOWS – 2014 VINTAGE
Two of the aspects that I like best about the 2014s is their transparency to the underlying terroir coupled with their sheer drinkability. This transparency is enhanced by terrific vibrancy because the wines really do taste alive in the mouth as they’ve got energy, or what I like to call underlying tension. They’re ripe yet they are what the French call digest, or refreshing, where the first sip invites the next which is in fact what makes them so drinkable. “
2014 vintage favors Chambolle-Musigny:
FREDERIC MUGNIER – DOMAINE J.F MUGNIER
” As to the wines I very much like them as they’re fresh and balanced and should drink reasonably well young but age well too. They are perhaps not as concentrated as their 2013 counterparts but they’re less austere. “
CHRISTOPHE ROUMIER – DOMAINE GEORGES ROUMIER

” I would describe it as having elements of 2006, 2007 and 2008 in the sense that the wines have the texture of 2006, the freshness of 2007 and the transparency of 2008. “
Domaine Hudelot Baillet Haute Cotes de Nuits Blanc Bourgogne 2014
Lovely green apple, citrus and intense saline minerality that intermixed with ginger.
Excellent sappiness on the palate w light inner perfume of white flower and orchard fruits. Decent length with salinity grip that boosting w good energy and just a touch of creaminess not unlike a Mersault!
Pair well w citrusy / lightly spicy starter such as prawn guacamole / snapper ceviche & Grilled Portobello tonight ☝️and braised pork belly –> Dave Chan, Wine Journey
