Guyon created a new cuvée named ‘Mes Nuages’, literally ‘My Clouds’. Being classified as Vin de France, it blends wines from various plots in Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.
In this cuvée, he explores a progressive vinification method that can possibly dissipates the unpleasant qualities in the wines of increasingly hot vintages as observed in the recent climate trends.
Guyon ventured into the use of sandstone, which he gauges to be equivalent to barrels 3 - 4 years of age. He believed that the sandstone material would convey the role of returning the grapes to the earth. The wine was aged in 100% new oak barrels for 1 1/4 year, and subsequently transferred to sandstone vessels, where it ages for another 1 1/2 years.
The results - a beautiful cuvée of pure, bright and fresh red fruits, merely tinted by subtle hints of wood.
Guyon currently brands this cuvée as a showcase of his showpiece as a vigneron, without prejudice nor distraction of terroir.
About the Producer
Jean-Pierre Guyon runs a medium sized vineyard in Vosne-Romanée. With the ECOCERT accreditation, the domaine embraces practices that respect organic life. The viticulture approaches allow vines to grow with autonomy, lunar cycles are accounted for during interventions, and harvest is timed meticulously to ensure optimal ripeness.
Jean-Pierre, being inventive and detailed-oriented, ensures the grapes portray biographical narratives of their environment, weather conditions and the soil conditions. He devotes long hours in the vineyards to ensure grapes are healthy, wholesome and alive. Laborious hand sorting and de-stemming techniques warrant transformation of grapes to wines with a strikingly perfumed nose reminiscent of roses.
The sulphur levels in the wines are negligible below 10mg/l.
