The grapes for this cuvée come from the Hérault region in the Languedoc, an area renowned for its hot, dry summers, ideal for revealing the full aromatic expression of Grenache Noir.
The Vignobles de la Roseraie wines are born from partnerships between Domaine de la Roseraie and several like-minded estates across different regions of France.
Our colleagues from central, southern, and western France share their grapes with us, allowing us to craft wines in our Burgundy cellar that remain faithful to the Roseraie style, while embracing the originality and character of grape varieties uncommon in Burgundy.
This single-varietal cuvée fully expresses the richness of Grenache Noir: deep colour, generous fruit, and remarkable aromatic intensity.
Viticulture
All of our partner growers share the same commitment to clean and sustainable viticulture. The vineyards are farmed according to organic standards.
The vines, approximately 50 years old, are trained in a semi-high, semi-wide system (approx. 1.80 m × 1.50 m), with average yields around 30 hl/ha.
Vinification & Ageing
The grapes are transported to our winery in Couches, Burgundy. Hand-harvested grapes are carried in perforated crates to preserve their integrity, then transferred directly into tank upon arrival. The berries are gently foot-trodden before undergoing a short maceration of 4 to 5 days, favouring delicate infusion over heavy extraction.
Slow mechanical pressing is followed by 24 months of vinification and ageing in Burgundy oak barrels within our cellars in Couches.
About The Producer
Julien Petitjean is a former historian and musicologist who turned to viticulture and winemaking in the early 2000s. Julien worked in various domaines across the Côte de Nuits over the years, before founding Domaine de la Roseraie in 2012 as a culmination of his experience. Currently, the domaine spans a 5-hectare vineyard, out of which 2.8 hectares is in active production.
In search of the most natural wine production methods and in his endeavour to replicate the vibrance in cuvées reminiscent of pre-technological eras, he explored and applied medieval winemaking techniques to resurrect simplicity and purity in the processes.
Julien insists on engaging minimal equipment to preserve microbial life in the soil, thus allowing the grapes to inherit the quintessence of the terroir. The principles of biodynamics are upheld, with cover cropping practiced and biodiversity embraced.
